The bus lumbers through the city as if it senses what lies ahead. Squeezed between every stop and jolt, the heat rises - steadily, unabashedly. Two women exchange glances while their hands share the same rail, knuckles grazing and lingering in hesitant familiarity. A young man with a crooked smile edges too close. The air hangs heavy with sweat, tension, and the faint trace of perfume. A prim woman shifts, her knees parting just a fraction too much, while the girl beside her stirs restlessly, lips slightly parted, dark eyes glazed over - the book in her lap forgotten. Somewhere further down the aisle, a passenger exhales laughter in quick bursts, while another pulls out their phone to record, hands trembling for reasons they can't quite place. The brakes let out a long, sharp hiss.
